Usually we wish (the examples below are in the Genitive): Я жела́ю тебе́ / я жела́ю вам … Pay attention, that the words that come after желаю should be in the Genitive case ( жела́ть чего́-то). To start your wishes, you can say я жела́ю тебе́ (informal) or я жела́ю вам (formal), depending on who you talk to, or just жела́ю. Grammatically speaking, there are a couple of ways to formulate the birthday wishes (or any event wishes) in the Russian language: 1. – I congratulate you on your birthday!
